So, by now you have probably heard about the journey building my Valentine’s Day session backdrop was. During the process it felt like the universe colluded against me, but in the end, it was a gorgeous set perfect to capture the essence of your love. In fact, because it was not quite perfect, it is more representative of your love. Love is neither perfect nor uncomplicated. I am really excited for all of the potential it has to be used in the future!
This year the heart was available for two exclusive Valentine’s Day sessions only. This week I wanted to share some of my favorites from Amanda and Kevin’s session!
From the minute I read Amanda’s inquiry form, I knew her relationship would be a blast to photograph. They did not disappoint. Kevin and Amanda were one of the most amusing couples I have had the pleasure of working with. Amanda and Kevin have been together for three years and their first date is one of the most memorable I’ve ever heard about. They talked for 14 hours and then proceeded to hangout the next day, after taking a quick nap. So, if you are looking for a metric to see if your partner is the one, here’s a new standard. After meeting them, I can see how perfect they are for each other. They continuously riffed of one another, and I don’t know about them, but I certainly did not stop laughing.
So, one of my favorite ways to start a couples’ session is by playing a card game. This game has extremely bizarre prompts on it (i.e. blow on your partner and say I’m giving you a blowjob) but is amazing for getting you out of your head and laughing in front of the camera. Most couples are a little hesitant at first but not Amanda and Kevin. About seven cards in, Kevin got the prompt to do parkour off the environment surrounding the Valentine’s Day Park picnic setup and he went all out. The man was jumping off the trees and even leapt across the blanket, which did not end ideally. The grass was a tad wet, so he slipped and fell onto his butt. But Kevin took this in stride, leaving me and Amanda laughing really hard. And there is photographic evidence of this magnificent leap.

I love working with couples who are willing to try any prompt or pose I throw at them. Two of my favorite things are having couples play tag around a tree or fixture nearby and if we are in an outdoor space like a park, have them roll down the hill or plane. Amanda and Kevin, yet again gave it their all. I don’t think I have seen an adult roll as quickly as Kevin before and he even jumped onto a tree while they were playing tag.

The set I created was beautiful to tie their love together. They threw roses at each other, pretended to smell them, kissed behind them, and held the chocolate box together. And the body pillows made the perfect cuddle spot, where they could snuggle up close to each other.
So, enjoy some of my favorites!
