Eileen and Steven’s couples’ session was a blast to photograph. As a couple they are so fun to be around. They have a puppy called Nova, who joined us during their engagement session and was the cutest thing ever. She was so excitable and wanted to meet everybody who was on the trail.

For their session we went to Lower Arroyo Seco trail and walked a little way across the trail until we got to a gorgeous stone bridge and a path down to the stream. The water was not fairly shallow and there were larger rocks across it so if you don’t want to get your pants wet, you can avoid it. The Lower Arroyo Seco Trail is a gorgeous oasis in Pasadena. As you can see behind Eileen and Steven, there is an abundance of trees, making it a prime location to observe the changing of the leaves.
As a photographer, one of my favorite things is to see the different ways couples interact. Every couple I work with responds to prompts differently, which keeps every session unique and exciting. My favorite part of their session was when they went off and wandered around the stream together. During this part of the session, they helped each other across the rocks and hugged each other. Truly, I adored how much they made each other laugh and smile. While they were crossing the rocks, their dog was following along and accidentally slipped and went for a little swim.

Another one of my favorite prompts during couples’ sessions is having them walk together like they are drunk and can’t quite walk straight anymore. It always takes a second for couples to figure out how they normally act when they are tipsy. One of the beauties of Lower Arroyo Seco is the large, paved path, which gave Eileen and Steven plentiful space to execute prompts requiring movement, such as this one.
One thing to note is that the Lower Arroyo Seco trail is fairly busy, so you will occasionally have to wait for people to pass, but this is in no way inhibiting with how expansive the space is. If you have the flexibility to do so, I recommend doing your session during the week rather than the weekend to avoid crowds.
